Have Barbarian, Will Travel - Timmy Mac's Card Show

Well met, adventurers!

I had such a good time running games at the last con! We ran the 2nd adventure from the Stranger Things D&D box set. Two of my players were returning to the table from the 1st adventure of the box set. I let them keep their loot and magic items from the previous game. Which was super fun for me to see. They enjoyed being leveled up to level 2 but to see them light up when they saw they had their +1 flail and great axe was amazing. Two new comers to the world joined Eddie and Nog on this journey. I prepared a couple world events that I added to the module. We went over where we are in the world, the included map was a great help for this. Explained the two events and used the two returning players as anchors for the back story. I have learned that if you just show up with the story as written the players will FOR SURE not go along with it. So I wanted to have some back up material. The gang didn’t end up using any of the extra events, but I think this will lead to a one shot between adventure 3 for the 2 returning players. The 2 players new to this table were very experienced and really help move the story along. They knew the mission and set to make sure these lands were purified! They also helped the newer players during more complexed parts of combat. Which you love to see. To be honest, I don’t have the tenure to run games for these veterans of the game. Though they humored me graciously. Even still, I had such a good time! I love running these one shots. We all did a really good time with adding bits to the story and even though these are pre-gen characters, for the most part, everyone did a great job of adding their own ideas. We had to cook the books a little bit to make sure we finished in 4 hours. I started them in the final “boss” area after a couple of smaller rooms just to make sure we made time. I added a couple NPCs and a way for them to heal up after this big battle. I had hopped they would have found the NPCs before the battle. One of them was none other than the legendary Bromrig! I added him in here as a DMNPC to help them fight off the forces of evil. Vampires! Gnolls! all kinds of baddies. They didn’t find him before combat so I had to find a way to pivot the encounter slightly. Seemed everyone had a great time during this encounter. It was almost deadly yet when the heroes prevailed the table erupted in delight. Canonically Nog the Dwarf is why Bromrig is a cleric of Moradin. So that was fun. All in all I can’t wait to run games at the next con!
